Our Church Life

At Honolulu Bible Church the way we live out our mission is with regular rhythms of Christian life revolving around God’s Word. You are invited to join us in these weekly rhythms!

Sunday Worship Services

Our Sunday Morning (10:15AM) and Sunday Evening (6:00PM) Worship Services are the most important gatherings in the life of our church. Our worship services are not a rote cultural artifact leftover from a Christian past. These services are times when we consciously enter into God’s presence through Song, Prayer, and Scripture.

  • God sits on the praises of his people. So we sing songs (a mix of psalms and modern and classic hymns) in praise to God because our songs are God’s favorite chair!

  • Jesus’s blood purchased our access to the throne of God. So we pray during our services, because it is a privilege to go before the throne of God knowing that we are allowed there!

  • God is present with his people through his Word. So we read the Bible and hear it preached, because we enjoy the presence of Jesus!

We have both a Sunday Morning and Evening Service in order to bookend Sunday as the Lord’s Day and not just the Lord’s morning. We love beginning and closing our day worshipping together as a church. The morning and evenings services are different from each other every Sunday (different songs, readings, and sermons) but they follow the same format.

Additional Gatherings

Our Sunday School (8:45 AM) is a more interactive time of equipping. Classes range from topical studies for growth in godliness and ministry competence (discipleship, evangelism, apologetics, prayer etc), practical applications of biblical teaching to our lives in various spheres (marriage, parenting, etc), and foundational theological studies (Bible book studies, systematic theology, church history).

Our Wednesday Evening Service (7PM) is a time particularly devoted to praying together. We open by discussing and applying one of the sermons from the past Sunday, in order to guide our prayers and then we break off into small groups to take our praises and requests to God. Wednesdays is the weekly way that we most concretely express our belief in the reality that Jesus made our prayers possible and effective by dying for our sins and covering us with his righteousness.

We also have many opportunities to connect & serve with each other throughout the week and month. These include group Bible studies, prison ministry at Waiawa Correctional facility, our Wednesday Palolo Youth Ministry, Prayer for the Persecuted Church nights, Men’s Prayer Breakfasts, Women’s Craft & Coffee mornings, and Women’s Holo Holo nights out.
