Our Leaders and Servants
Here at HBC we have two offices of the church: pastors and deacons. We believe this is the biblical pattern (1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-16).
In the New Testament, pastors are also called elders, overseers, and bishops interchangeably. We most often use the language “pastor” or “elder,” but we don’t make a distinction between any of those titles.
Our Pastors
Our pastors are responsible for providing biblical direction & vision through preaching, teaching, and devoting themselves to praying for the congregation. We also believe in having a plurality of elders/pastors because this is what is modeled in the New Testament. Our pastors are equal in authority, though they might have a specialized function. Our pastoral team includes both staff pastors (those employed by the church) and lay pastors (those who serve on a volunteer basis as able).
Our pastors don’t “do all the ministry,” rather they equip the members of the church to do the ministry (Ephesians 4:12).
Our Deacons
The deacons manage practical affairs in the daily life of the church to make sure that ministry can happen and flourish. This frees the pastors to devote themselves to the ministry of the Word and Prayer (Acts 6).
Deacons are often unsung heroes in church life or totally non-existent. But we have been blessed with faithful and diligent men who make everything that happens at HBC possible.
